Shizu Yamato Yury Multi-Purpose Petty Knife 135mm

The Yuri knife series was designed by the female staff of Shizu Hamono in collaboration with Aiko Yamamoto, a product designer from Seki City, Japan. They began with the idea of creating knives that feel comfortable in women's hands, while also being environmentally friendly. The team's shared goal was to develop knives suitable for everyday cooking—lightweight yet retaining the technical precision and aesthetics of traditional Japanese knives.

These knives feature a simple, user-friendly, and elegant design, with a gentle aesthetic tailored to women. The designs are inspired by traditional Japanese knives that have been used by Japanese women for centuries, such as the Santoku (a versatile, easy-to-use all-purpose knife), Nakiri (a knife specialized for slicing vegetables), and the Petty (a compact utility knife ideal for cutting fruits). Simplicity, style, sharpness, and durability are the core elements of the design.

One of the main characteristics of the Yuri series is its light weight. The blade is crafted to be as thin as possible, allowing smooth slicing with minimal effort, reducing resistance while cutting, and providing excellent control. The Pakka wood handle, in a soft natural tone, gives a warm and inviting look. It fits comfortably in the hand and is water-resistant and durable against daily kitchen use.

The blade itself is made from three-layer molybdenum-vanadium stainless steel, with an AUS8 steel core that ensures long-lasting sharpness. Another thoughtful innovation is found in the handle design: unlike conventional knives where water often seeps into the gap between the blade and handle—eventually causing damage—Yuri knives feature a sealed joint that prevents water intrusion. This detail extends the knife’s lifespan and showcases the thoughtful touches of its female designers.
